About the Program

Each 45-minute class begins with an age-appropriate discussion of a STEM concept and then a hands-on experiment or activity to demonstrate that concept. Lessons cover a wide variety of STEM topics, including simple machines, states of matter, polymers, math in nature, acid-base chemistry, electricity and a whole lot more! Classes are kept small with 8 or fewer students so that each child will have time to ask questions, collaborate with peers and pursue individual inquiry into that week's topic of investigation.

About me

My name is Amanda Jones and I'm a local Charleston mom and scientist. I have 3 children (ages 7, 8, and 12) and I've taught chemistry labs at the College of Charleston since 2009. By sharing fun experiments and my own enthusiasm for science, I hope to inspire children to be curious, ask questions and get excited about STEM!

I believe that learning the scientific method gives children an incredible tool to navigate the world around them by teaching them to be observant, think creatively, persevere, and innovate. There is no failure, no wrong answer, only the next question!
